Quality and speed the key to Northern Ireland contract

Leading designers and manufacturers of transformers and switchgear, Winder Electrical has just completed a demanding contract from Northern Ireland Electricity Powerteam Electrical Services Ltd. Four transformers were produced for a new build project to upgrade the sewage system at Belfast Sewage Works.

Beating off competition not only from the UK but from a host of European-wide manufacturers, Winder was able to complete the order in record time. In a matter of only eight weeks from receiving the order, Winder was able to design and produce the equipment and fulfil all testing procedures - a major achievement considering the size of the order: Two 12/24MVA and two 5MVA transformers were designed and manufactured with a total contract price of over £300,000.

The project is the latest in a series of contracts completed for NIE and forms part of the three year term contract between the two organisations.

Paul Matthews, General Manager of Winder Electrical, has overseen the project from the company’s headquarters in Leeds, West Yorkshire. He is delighted with how the project has progressed.

“ We believe that we were able to head off the competition through excellent quality and quick delivery, plus we have performed very well on other contracts for NIE. Delivering on-time on this occasion will hopefully help us to gain even more work in the future.”
The main point of contact for Powerteam Electrical Services is Paul Martin who is equally pleased that the project has run smoothly: “Winder have delivered the key component on time and to cost for a scheme which features a dual redundant 15MVA 33/11kV grid connection and 11kV radial distribution network for the £100m Belfast Sewers Project. Powerteam look forward to working with Winder on similar high profile projects in the near future.”

The NIE project is the latest in a number of key new business developments for Winder Electrical who were recently subject to a management buy-out. The newly formed parent company Winder Power is responsible for both Winder Electrical and Newton Derby, designers and manufacturers of electrical equipment supplied worldwide to customers such as the MOD.
